Week 9 - Charm Necklace - Lucinda/PurpleRhian

An idea that has been on my mind for a while now, the necklace is amde from purchased chain soldered on to a handmade hammered toggle, designed to sit at the front with charms suspended from the toggle itself.  For more information, please visit my blog.

In My Happy Place

I really wanted to stay on theme but have changed my thoughts on that to working with what
inspires me instead. If the theme inspires me and guides my creativity that week - "great!"
but if not there are many other projects I have on the go. So that will be my approach for
balance of the YOJ. Having said that here are a handful of pendants that I put together with
my lampworked beads and some sterling cloverleaf wirework. Reminds me of jelly beans
somehow.........

Week 9 - Eni Oken

Still trying to catch up with the YOJ weeks. This ring is a slightly modified version of a ring I created a long while ago (Ethnic Ring), the only difference being the scalloped edge. Although it looks pretty intricate, it was not that difficult to make. Totally made in sterling silver, with a capsule Bali bead for the center.

Week 9 - Acid etching

My friend Cathy is a designer specialising in Celtic cards and stationery, and she very kindly let me use some of her designs for this project.

I have been taking a jewellery class at Central St Martins this term in colour and texture.  As part of the course we did some acid etcing using some special transfer paper to etch on copper. 

The result was this incredible dragon, which I then oxidised in tourmaline for the contrast.

I haven't turned the dragon into a piece of jewellery because its too large, but i think it would look great as a wall hanging. 

If Cathy lets me, then next term, I'm going to use some of her designs, to make some silver brooches and pendants.  I love this technique, but its not something i would do at home because of the acid.

Whirlies!

Another piece done on time, phtographed late!  Sorry!

The focal of this one is young jade.  then some jigged wirework, with dangles of honey jade and emerald.  Seraphinite beads finish off this piece (with a sterling chain in the back)

My life is Whirly

Well I may be on spring break stuck here in Minnesota. But I am still just as busy. I was able to finish this little bracelet in my busy schedule. Aquamarine stones framed and green garnet accents. All sterling silver.

A Little Leather - Maia

No whirles this week - other than the whirlwind way the time passed - I missed y'all!! Anyway, here's my piece...Sterling wire and chain with a bit of coral and leather. I punched out the leather and it was a circle, but it kind of changed as I was working with it. I actually like this shape better than round - which is good 'cause it wasn't going to do anything else! I've gotten some good comments on it when I've work it...generally surprise at how the leather was incorporated. Good thing - I like surprises! If anyone is still looking at this week, comments are always welcome. : )

Done on time, but...

Simple little earrings.  They are a gift for a woman whose dogs are mostly black and white.  I thought she could match them.  :-)

Whirly Heart

I'm catching up after weeks of no internet and not much motivation to create.  In an effort to learn more wire skills I created this heart from instructions at www.BeadStudio.com. It's a little too busy but I had fun making it.  I'd love to know how you all make such great looking spirals.  Mine have points where I've used pliers to adjust it.  The wrapped beads cover it up but you can see what I mean from the back view.
