Week 29 - Shaktipaj

This photo is at a weird angle- it hangs very well in person, and the diamond shape isn't skewed. Pearls, smoky topaz and garnet rondelles, and a smoky topaz center. A bit bold and stark, but I like it. I'm catching up, so the commentary is getting more terse, but please always know I welcome critiques as well as comments.  Perri

Catching up a little

Nothing special here. Decided that I would have a try of a free form bangle as I have not made one before.

Not exactly bronze....brass wire(geeeez that 5mm is hard to bend!) carnelian, FW pearl and Smokey Quartz. Thanks for having a look!!

Week 29 - weirdlywired - leftovers

Another week goes by, and I am still woefully behind!
Both pair of these earrings were made using left over bits from Week 27's post. I'm trying to get some stock built up for fall shows and a new gallery I'll be in very soon - YAY!
These are copper (duh) hand twisted and coiled, LOS'd and tumbled. Both pair are on the bigger size - that's what happens when using leftovers, but I NEED to start making more of an effort to make smaller, more delicate stuff.

Bubble in Orbit

In Roman mythology Mercury is the god of commerce, travel and thievery, the Roman counterpart of the Greek god Hermes, the messenger of the Gods. The planet probably received this name because it moves so quickly across the sky.

I did not have any bronze around, therefore, I settled for Mercury Rising Theme. I used Sterling Silver. The planet I created is an organic planet, conscious of its resources. I forged the metal into domes after embossing leaves in its texture.

A bit like Jupiter, there is a "ring" around my planet, which is fixed with soldier, That contains Mercury :), a bit like the line of the horizon.

I oxydised the globe, and then polished it, in order to show the skeleton at its maximum.

Here is another piece with one of my own cabs. It's mahogany obsidian with silver and leather. I use the fancy bezel wire to make the end caps for the clasp, this helps tie everything together.

Week 29 - Celtic pendant

Last season, I started to do some acid etching and knew it was something I wanted to develop further.  My friend Cathy makes Celtic cards and stationery, and very kindly gave me permission to reproduce her designs to see what they would look like in a different medium.

This is one of my alltime favourites of her designs, and one that she allowed me to use previously many years ago for a tattoo.

I used pnp to transfer the design onto silver for the etch, and then slighty domed the pendant before adding a tube bail onto the back.  To finish, the piece has been oxidised and barrell polished to bring out the design, and it hasn't left my neck since.

Week 29 — Rising Mercury

I skipped week 28 because I want to do something more complex, and I don't have the time just now before leaving on vacation next week.  I will probably work on it while I am away, and post my entry when I get back. 

That's why I have made only a simple pendant for the Rising Mercury theme, and I will try to have my pieces 30 and 31 posted before I leave. 

This one has been crocheted with 34ga stainless steel wire in a tubular shape.  I inserted a red glass glob and two sizes of red glass beads into the tube, working with 4 different hook sizes in order to adjust the diameter of the tube as I was going. 

What is it?  A thermometer, of course!

Jean Power- Week 29- scarf inspired bracelet

I'm working on a new 'inspired by' series of beadwork and this is my first piece. it was inspired by a patterned scarf I bought recently, and it'll feature as a project in a future issue of Bead Magazine.
It's beaded using peyote stitch and cylinder beads.

Week 29 - Eni Oken

As promised, the matching necklace to Week 28's bangle. Do you recognize the netted pendant? I just had to do something with it... This necklace uses jasper, gemstone-quality citrine, tiny carnelians, goldfilled beads and vermeil beads. All wrapped in miles and miles of goldfilled 28ga wire. Bronze and Ruby Red

Well, smokey quartz and garnet really, but the colours are there! This is a necklace to match the bracelet and earrings I posted for week 27. Smokey quartz coins and garnet mini 'nugget' shapes wrapped with sterling silver daisy spacers and sterling silver wire with sterling silver coils make up the chain. The fastens at the front (a first for me) with a simple toggle. A smokey quartz faceted tear drop with more garnet hangs from the clasp.
