CWJs...'Year of Jewelry' 2007

Better late than never :)

Hello everyone!

Well after a long absence due to a very difficult family medical situation, I am finally back at the workbench and producing jewellery again - so much to catch up on.     So here is my first experiment! This one is truly an experiment, since this is way outside my usual style. That being said it was a lot of fun to make, and it won’t be the last time I go a little abstract.

This little guy is an asymmetrical abstract silver, opal and turquoise brooch. (I didn’t use the real thing this time since this was an experiment!)

I went with the silver wire (the cool winds) swirling and wrapping around  bright turqouise and blue opal beads - the length is around 5 cm (2"). This is a rather shabby photo and as a result you don’t get to see the opal beads “do their thing” - when I get the time I’ll take a proper shot. The first one of these I did was completely different, and had these pretty almost romantic tails sticking out And while I was very fond of those windy looking tails, I finally had to admit to myself that things could get caught in them - so I went for a look that was perhaps a little less windy, but more practical

I’m still undecided about whether or not I like it (My mother insists that it looks like some sort of tangled spider!) but I’m looking forward to playing around with this type technique in the future, regardless of the critics!

Week 1 - Finally!

WOW, so being on vacation caused me to run a little late, but I'll be up to week three by friday! I thik I was going into plier withdrawal... I certainly wasn't desiring beads that's for sure :^)

This piece was an add on to my mother earth pendant from FSOJ last season -
. It was purchased as a gift for christmas, and they had me make earrings to match. When I got home from toronto, she wanted a bracelet to match as well! It's a simple Eni style piece, with not a lot of extras... no bali, just lapis-chrysocolla beads, with sterling silver. I was originally afraid it would be a touch large, but it fit her like she had been here while I made it! She was a very happy customer this morning...

Week 1 - Lemon Tea Bangle

Happy New Year! My word for the year is "LIGHT". Light as in easygoing, but also as in full of light, which I hope this year will be. For this YOJ, I decided to not establish too many goals, just go with the flow. Probably most weeks my entries will be commissions, but that's ok -- you'll get to see what I'm working on at the time. For my first entry, I'm posting this Lemon Tea Bangle, which is part of a couple of commissions for some special clients -- I have to produce a total of 13 of these babies.

The lemon quartz stones are a little bit more impressive than the ones used in the original Lemon Tea Bangle, and also more random looking. At the center of the bangle, the tiniest tea set, flanked by two flat teapot charms.

Garnet Heart Necklace

I made a small edition of these one inch wide heart pendants. The inside wires are twisted/double instead of the usual single. And instead of a bail in the center, it's more casual with an off center heavy gauge ring for a bail.  I've been doing some more work with pmc and doing some soldering (like the heart shape) but I also want to continue with my wire work. - Beth

My first filigree

Eeeek! Starting the year off late!

Well, as bad as I know that these earrings look up close, I am still rather proud of them. they are my first attempt at filigree. It is pretty tricky! Anyway, this apparently is a traditional Norwegian design that I learned from the book Silver Threads. Gotta start somewhere, right?

Pearly Cuffs

First, I stitched the basic rectangle in Right Angle Weave in Japanese 11's.  Then, I filled the RAW with more 11's and also 8's.  I transitioned to Peyote stitch for the clasp tabs.  The cuff is embellished with contrasting 8's and fresh water pearls.  I made the clasp by shaping, hammering, and polishing 14 gauge sterling silver round wire.  I like the stiffness and heft of this piece.

Leah Week 1

Oops, I keep thinking pieces are due on Wednesdays, so I'm a day late. Anyway, I've had some nasty cold the past few days and haven't had much energy for making anything (except hot tea, LOL). Here's a simple freeform pendant I made - I'll hopefully have more to share for next week!

Week One Morning Zephyr

This blue lace agate reminded me of an early morning sky, delicately blue. I added opal Swaraovskis for those last visible stars.

A lot of different stones, in this Eni Oken inspired bracelet including amethyst, aquamarine, carnelian, sponge coral, rhodonite, peridot, garnet, kyanite, iolite and labradorite. There are even a few creamy fresh water pearls here and there. It's all put together with many feet of sterling silver wire.

I didn't have a plan when I made this bracelet, and I went through phases of liking it and not liking it, but I think in the end it turned out pretty good.

Zephyr? Margit

When I looked up the meaning for Zephyr...it was described as a "breeze".  Therefor, I needed something that reminded me of an early morning breeze...I needed something with movement, and what better than tender leaves?

My goal this year is to form metal, solder, and learn settings.  I will continue to wrap wire too.
