After researching the term "atmospheric" on the web, I came upon a picture of rolling thunder clouds over a city sky that I found most inspiring. I knew instantly that I could use the shape of those clouds as a basis for a crocheted cuff. I have also found pictures of the hole in the layer of ozone over the Arctic area, which inspired me to make the button clasp with opalite.
Here is a picture showing my sources of inspiration, and the renderings.
If you look closely inside the largest sleeve, you will see oval shaped pearls (8x6mm) to prevent the "tunnel" from collapsing upon itself. The pearls are not secured, and they move freely in their channel. They also bring an impression of fluffiness. The cuff is ½ inch thick in some places, and 1½ inch wide (the band part; the front is wider than that with the clasp at 2 3/8 inches.
Making this bracelet took much longer than I expected (I had not planned to put almost 2 hours on the clasp only).
Total time, not counting research and creative process: 9¾ hours
Total wire used: 161 ft (49,5m) of 30ga, 3 ft of 28ga, and 6 in. of 16 ga
Edited on March 1st to add picture on dark background

OMG!!! This is beautiful and a lot of work. I sure wish I could crochet, but I am way to impatient for it.

This is a brilliant interpretation of that awesome cloud formation (what a great photo). You can cleary see where the inspiration for this piece came from (hole in the ozone layer too). I'm gobsmacked! Can't find the right words..lol.It's beautiful Johanne :^)

Gobsmacked works for me! I truly envy folks who can interpret from one medium to another and maintain the essence while adding a new flavor. Sorry for the mixed metaphor, but this bracelet is truly beautiful. I love the way you captured both the airy and the dense qualities of the cloud formation. I'm also a huge fan of diagonals and offset closures. Awe inspiring, Miss Johanne! Perri
